Was happy that Outdoor GPS called me to discuss all the kayak fishing activities going on this year at the Pacific Northwest Sportsmen's Show at the Portland Expo Center. It was a long week for me bouncing between working shifts at the Daiwa booth, Next Adventure Booth, Yakima Bait booth, KoneZone booth and doing daily seminars on kayak angling. This year was by far the biggest and best show I've ever seen. Thanks to Comcast Sportsnet and Outdoor GPS for having me on the show to discuss.
Feeling very happy to have been invited into the NBC Seattle studio on Saturday for an interview on Northwest Wild Country as part of their "All Star" episode. What an honor it was to be included in the episode with local Northwest favorites Buzz Ramsey, Scott Haugen, Del Stephens and Cody Herman to name a few. Host Joel Shangle, co-hosts Bill Herzog, Duane Inglin & Andy Shanks took great care to make us all feel right at home on air. Check out my kayak fishing portion of the show below.
So on Friday afternoon I was down on the Willamette River shooting a video for Hobie on Sturgeon fishing from a kayak. I had know idea that morning when I was leaving my house that I would soon hooking into this big of a fish. Right after I hooked her, she went airborn right next to me and my kayak. In fact her splash completely covered my lap and face with Willamette river water. Oh Well because a 45 minute fight ensued right after. She had me towing up river, down river, under big shipping boats and back in the channel for more. At one point my GPS had us marked at 3.2 MPH going south into one of the shipping yards. Once I finally landed her, she was finished. She came right up to me on the side of my kayak for a couple pictures while resting next my kayak in the water, I then pulled her hook out and she slowly swam off into the abyss. What a great experience. One that I may not have again for some time.
