So on Friday afternoon I was down on the Willamette River shooting a video for Hobie on Sturgeon fishing from a kayak. I had know idea that morning when I was leaving my house that I would soon hooking into this big of a fish. Right after I hooked her, she went airborn right next to me and my kayak. In fact her splash completely covered my lap and face with Willamette river water. Oh Well because a 45 minute fight ensued right after. She had me towing up river, down river, under big shipping boats and back in the channel for more. At one point my GPS had us marked at 3.2 MPH going south into one of the shipping yards. Once I finally landed her, she was finished. She came right up to me on the side of my kayak for a couple pictures while resting next my kayak in the water, I then pulled her hook out and she slowly swam off into the abyss. What a great experience. One that I may not have again for some time.
Here's the video that's airing in Oregon and Washington with Bethy Rosses and Comcast Sportsnets Outdoor GPS on a rockfishing adventure a couple weeks ago. We had awesome weather in Pacific City, Oregon and landed some nice fish. Bethy was the winner of Comcast Sportsnets "Wanted II: Adventure Woman" and won her own TV show and called it Adrenalin Hunter. She was also featured this year on Master Chef finishing 9th. Bethy's got game!
I've been invited to compete in the Hobie 2012 Fishing World Championship in Austin, Texas next week. I will be joining team USA in a kayak Bass fishing Invitational competing against 13 other countries for a chance at being crowned "World Champ" for 2012. I will also be reporting from the event daily at www.kayakfishingmagazine.net.

Here's a few video highlights from my adventure's in central Oregon in search of Largemouth Bass a couple weeks ago. These Oregon Bass are eating hard this time of year in preparation for Oregons cool and wet rainy winters. This Largemouth weighed in at 7lbs14oz and a length of 20.5".
I love Oregon!
Here's a little sample of how it feels catching a large Chinook Salmon in a kayak.
Enjoy the ride!
I recently did a TV shoot with Comcast Sportsnet Northwest and host Cody Herman on Outdoor GPS. Check out the video below and watch an 8' Sturgeon come flying out of the water right in front of our camera man.
Check out my first sail on Hobie's new Pro Angler 12. Lite sporadic winds, but very stable. It's nice to be able to pedal if the wind isn't blowing or you're trying to get repositioned in the wind.
Here's me with the 1st place winning Lingcod weighing 19.25lbs and measured 37.5". I was so happy landing this huge Lingcod late in the tournament. Thank's so much to the 68 kayak fisherman that particiapted in this years tournament and also our sponsors at NWKA, Next Adventure and Ocean Kayaks(for the 1st place prize). We had a great time in Depoe Bay Oregon.
I was invited to call in to Comcast Sportnets show "Outdoor GPS" last Saturday to discuss kayak fishing as well as the upcoming seminar at Fisherman's Marine and Outdoor. The host, Owin really seems to be interested in these Hobie Kayaks. He's a huge duck hunter and sees a whole other side of these kayaks as platforms for shooting ducks. More to follow soon...
Here's what happens when a Sea Lion decided to steal my Chinook Salmon while kayak fishing. I had just decided to hit the river Friday evening after work and was trolling the edges of the river when then Springer hit. It started as a really soft bite, but quickly excelerated into a lot of hot action. I had seen a couple Sea Lions pass by an hour earlier, but hadn't seen anything recently so thought I could play the fish for a couple minutes before netting . I was just about to to reach back for my net when this Sea Lion sneaks up below water, grabs my Salmon and takes off like a bat out of hell for deeper for the deeper river, eventually breaking off my Springer at the head. You'll see me reel in the head at the end and notice how the Sea Lion tears appart my dinner in the river right next to me. Fur bag!!!!
